Breaking News: 12 Victorian McDonald’s stores have closed tonight after a delivery driver tested positive for Covid-19.

Multiple stores will close for “deep cleaning” and there are fears McDonalds workers and customers may have been exposed.

McDonald Australia said the decision was made “out of an abundance of caution”.

A statement from McDonalds: “The truck driver made deliveries to 12 restaurants and interacted with a small number of restaurant employees on each occasion while asymptomatic and unaware they had contracted COVID-19,” a McDonalds Australia spokesperson said.

The full list of restaurants to close and conduct a deep clean:

  • Melton East
  • Laverton North
  • Yallambie
  • Taylors Lakes
  • Campbellfield
  • Sunbury
  • Hoppers Crossing
  • Riverdale Village
  • Sandown
  • Calder Highway Northbound/Outbound
  • Calder Highway Southbound/Inbound
  • BP Rockbank Service Centre Outbound

Seven News Melbourne tonight reported that the delivery driver is a close contact of the positive Coronavirus case at the Craigieburn McDonalda store.

At that store, multiple Covid cases had previously been confirmed.

On Friday, the Department of Health has confirmed an employee at McDonald’s Craigieburn has tested positive for COVID-19.

A few days earlier, McDonalds Australia CEO Andrew Gregory confirmed new cases linked to McDonald’s Fawkner outlet.

Four McDonalds staff and four close contacts infected were associated with that store.

“Overnight we unfortunately have been advised by the Department of Heath there has been another two close contacts of the four employees that have been confirmed as positive,” he said.

These are the McDonalds stores closing due to the Cluster.

More to come.
