A return to full lockdown in Melbourne is now a real possibility, after a surge in new cases in Victoria Saturday.

Crisis talks are underway on how to respond as more cases are identified across the community and transmission continues.

108 new cases were recorded in the State today.

According to the Australian, this is only the second time the state has had a daily increase of more than 100, with the only higher tally 111 on March 28.

Approximately 300,000 Victorians are currently in lockdown across multiple suburbs.

Workers from two Kmart stores have been diagnosed, with those stores now closed.

They were Kmart Footscray and Barkly Square, Brunswick
