Breaking News: The entire city of greater Melbourne will be locked down for 4-weeks.
News Corp is reporting that the Andrews government will move to rapidly lock down greater Melbourne as cases surge.
There were 191 confirmed today, with 35 people hospitalised. 9 of those are in intensive care.
“Well-placed sources say the Andrews government is preparing to announce a four-week statewide lockdown from this afternoon,” the Australian said.
Other sources told this publication details are being thrashed out in an emergency meeting, with a full lockdown likely imminent for the entire city.

Major lockdown for Melbourne imminent
The government will the announce sweeping changes to how 5.5 million people live and work this afternoon.
The lockdown is also likely to extend to major regional centres.
Cases hit nearly 200 today, including spread to people in areas without cases previously.
Regional Victoria is also facing lockdowns, however some areas without cases could be spared for now.
However, ABC Melbourne reports the cases in some areas outside Melbourne could also mean lockdown there. There were 2 cases recorded in Geelong, for example.
Emergency meetings are underway to make details clearer. A 3.15pm press conference has been arranged.
Covid is spreading across the metro region with nearly half of new cases outside postcodes locked down last week.
Specific postcodes are currently locked down, impacting about 500,000 people.
