Breaking: Victoria is going into a 5-day lockdown.
Summary of what’s happening:
5-day Stage 4 lockdown from 11.59pm tonight.
Ends 11.59pm on Wednesday.
Only 4 reasons to leave the home.
Key statements from Dan Andrews at a press conference today:
“We must assume that there are further cases in the community”
“It is moving at a velocity that has not been seen anywhere in our country.”
The lockdown would last 5-days from 11.59pm tonight.
Victorians won’t be able to leave home unless shopping for essential items, compassionate reasons and for two hours exercise per day.
You just stay 5km of your home unless you need to shop or work.
A number of people have confirmed to have caught the virus from hotel quarantine at the Holiday Inn near Melbourne Airport.
The UK variant of Covid has resulted in hotel quarantine spread and the virus was now in the Melbourne community with cases suspected to grow over the next days.
Public gatherings are not permitted.
The Australian Open and AFLW will likely continue without crowds, to be confirmed.
Work from home:
Premier Andrews said that if you can work from home, then you must work from home.
Schools will close but will remain available over those three days — Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday — for vulnerable children or for the children of people who are permitted to go to work, and those who can’t work from home.
Child care and early childhood centres will remain open.
