Channel 9 Melbourne news reader Peter Hitchener was suddenly taken off air during Monday 6PM news.

The veteran newsreader was in the middle of the bulletin when viewers noticed he appeared to lose his train of thought on air.

Clint Stanway took over the news reading and told viewers of Nine Melbourne that Hitchener was feeling unwell.

The broadcaster was yesterday hit with a cyber attack that knocked much of its automated systems offline.

News readers around the country have had to read from notes and other unconventional means of broadcasting, while systems remain down.

Nine Melbourne said tonight in a statement: “While reading tonight’s bulletins of 9News, Peter Hitchener expereinced a migraine. He is now resting and we expect to see him back on deck tomorrow night. He is grateful for everyone’s concern.”
